What:
Melamine and cyanuric acid are found in animal feeds today and these includes animals destined for human consumption. The chemicals caused renal failures in pets/animals feeding on these tainted food source. Confirmed 16 deaths today related to the pet food contamination, although officials have said they expect that number to rise. Animals affected not only dogs and cats but includes poultry and hogs farms.
Why:
These chemicals are found in feeds to increase the nitrogen content to make the food appear “protein rich” since protein tests commonly evaluates nitrogen content.
Where:
Contaminated ingredients source comes from China.
Now:
Officals assured that humans will not be affected by eating animals that feed on contaminated ingredients as the “dilution effect” poses humans to be at “low risk” since human diet is varied and tainted animal only form a small portion of our diet.
